2020.09.15 17:32 oliver_babish There were *no* rookie WR/TE breakout performances in week 1. History says: be very patient.

[This is an update of a piece I first published last year at this time. -o (not the chef) b]
If you've seen posts like this from me, or my charts on rookie TE performance like this one, you'd know that I believe steadfastly in ignoring rookie WRs for the first half of the season, and rookie TEs altogether. I said, over and over again in 2019: avoid the Hockenson hype, that other than Evan Engram in the year when ODB and Brandon Marshall went down, rookie TEs simply weren't worth owning.
So, okay, yesterday happened.
And none of the rookies were particularly impressive. Unlike last year, where we saw four rookie WTEs with 10+ FPs in 0 PPR (Brown x2, Hockenson, McLaurin), plus DK Metcalf in 1.0 PPR, this is what we saw:
Rece Rece Rece Rece Fant Fant
Player Tgt Rec Yds TD FantPt PPR Fmb
Laviska Shenault Jr. 4 3 37 1 10.70 13.7 0
Henry Ruggs III 5 3 55 0 6.60 9.6 0
CeeDee Lamb 6 5 59 0 5.90 10.9 0
Jerry Jeudy 8 4 56 0 5.60 9.6 1
Jalen Reagor 4 1 55 0 5.50 6.5 1
Chase Claypool 2 2 39 0 4.70 6.7 0
Quintez Cephus 10 3 43 0 4.30 7.3 0
Darnell Mooney 3 3 38 0 3.80 6.8 0
Van Jefferson 3 1 31 0 3.10 4.1 0
Justin Jefferson 3 2 26 0 2.60 4.6 0
Provided by Pro-Football-Reference.com: View Original Table Generated 9/15/2020.
What my past research showed was that very often, it was the rookies who had solid week one performances who were worth owning and potentially starting even before the trees changed color, that a rookie who was already in the game plan in week one, probably will be all season long.
What I did was I head over to Pro-Football-Reference to pull the chart: every rookie WR with 10+ FP (std) in week one, 1998-2020.
(Tangent #1: Why 1998? (a) because I started playing FF around then, and (b) the guy in line two is the hallmark of "yeah, some rookie WR seasons are worth investing in.")
(Tangent #2: These charts are incredibly easy to construct there and share here. Analysis wins championships. Get in the habit of doing so and contributing to each others' success.)
Anyway, here's what I saw:

[N.B. I had to jerry-rig things to get the 1998 stats back in there. Something weird going on in the database. Anyway ...]
If you know anything about how these players' went (and if you don't, click on "View Original Table," then click on the player or his team), you'd know that for the most part, rookie pass-catchers who had strong week 1s had viable rookie seasons.
Look, there's a lot of false positives in that chart. Even among the 2-TD guys, Stephen Hill and The Other Alex Smith were mirages, and Charles Rogers never stayed healthy and only had 2 more TDs in his career. Among the guys with heavy targets, Deion Branch, Louis Murphy, and Brandin Cooks (yes, Brandin Cooks) didn't amount to much across their rookie seasons.
[I also constructed the chart for 12+ FP in PPR. I think it adds more false positives than insight, though it does add Julio Jones to the picture. But Shenault stans should review it.]
But on the whole? When you look at the best rookie WTE seasons across that same era, there's a good amount of overlap. Some rookies did take more time (ODB, Mike Evans, Michael Thomas, Tyreek Hill), but many of the ones who had strong week ones were worth investing in for the season.
What's the bottom line for 2020? This year, all the top rookie WR prospects were drafted widely in all formats. CeeDee Lamb isn't up for FAAB in your league, and you're not finding Ruggs either. Perhaps only Laviska Shenault Jr. is available. (I'd ignore Quintez Cephas's targets, since that was so "well, Golladay's not here, so someone's got to catch the ball" based.)
But as we have more weeks like this, other managers are going to start to lose patience in these guys. You shouldn't. History shows that it takes most rookie WRs at least half a season to get acclimated to the NFL -- perhaps, even more given the absence of exhibition games. It was in last year's second half that AJ Brown and Deebo Samuel became must-starts.
Drafting a top rookie WR means committing to that bench slot being occupied at least until Election Day, and probably a bit longer. You won't know until then what you have. If you really need help sooner, so be it -- but you may regret it in the long term.

2020.07.27 21:16 Pill-yo Youtube_dl not returning artist or song name (Python)

Hello, I have seen that youtube_dl has some capabilities in parsing artist and song titles from youtube videos, notably from this video, Automate Spotify. I am essentially trying to accomplish the same thing.
However, as I tried out the library, I noticed that the artist and track dictionary keys would always return None. Has the youtube_dl library recently changed, so that the artist and track cannot be found anymore? Any help is useful.
I was able to parse the song and title by coding it myself, but I want to figure out if I did not properly use YoutubeDL.
Here is the code that I used, utilizing the youtube_dl library.
from youtube_dl import YoutubeDL example_url = "https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dQw4w9WgXcQ" video = YoutubeDL({}).extract_info(example_url, download=False) print(f"The artist is {video['artist']}. The track is {video['track']}.") # Result should be # [youtube] dQw4w9WgXcQ: Downloading webpage # The artist is Rick Astley. The track is Never Gonna Give You Up.
This is the actual result
[youtube] dQw4w9WgXcQ: Downloading webpage The artist is None. The track is None.
These are the dictionary keys that the video dictionary provides.
print(video.keys()) # dict_keys(['id', 'uploader', 'uploader_id', 'uploader_url', 'channel_id', 'channel_url', 'upload_date', 'license', 'creator', 'title', 'alt_title', 'thumbnails', 'description', 'categories', 'tags', 'subtitles', 'automatic_captions', 'duration', 'age_limit', 'annotations', 'chapters', 'webpage_url', 'view_count', 'like_count', 'dislike_count', 'average_rating', 'formats', 'is_live', 'start_time', 'end_time', 'series', 'season_number', 'episode_number', 'track', 'artist', 'album', 'release_date', 'release_year', 'extractor', 'webpage_url_basename', 'extractor_key', 'playlist', 'playlist_index', 'thumbnail', 'display_id', 'requested_subtitles', 'requested_formats', 'format', 'format_id', 'width', 'height', 'resolution', 'fps', 'vcodec', 'vbr', 'stretched_ratio', 'acodec', 'abr', 'ext'])
The closest way to find the artist and track name was by the 'tags' key which provides a list of tags to the song, which usually gives the track and artist. The problem is that the track and artist are not found at the same indices for different songs, their names are usually split into separate indices, and sometimes the track or artist is not even in the tags.
print(video['tags']) # [youtube] dQw4w9WgXcQ: Downloading webpage ['the boys soundtrack', 'the boys amazon prime', 'Never gonna give you up the boys', 'RickAstleyvevo', 'vevo', 'official', 'Rick Roll', 'video', 'music video', 'Rick Astley album', 'rick astley official', 'single', 'album', 'together forever', 'Never Gonna Give You Up', 'Whenever You Need Somebody', 'pop', 'rickrolled', 'WRECK-IT RALPH 2', 'Fortnite song Fortnite item shop Fortnite time shop today Fortnite montage', 'Fortnite event', 'Fortnite dance', 'fortnite never gonna give you up']
Note that the 'description' only provides info up to a certain point and never provides information under Music in this video.

EDIT: A recent update to youtube_dl has fixed the issue with not displaying the entire description, besides the Music in this video which is in a different section than description.
EDIT: u/Revolutionary-Pen-45 provided an easy working solution that sets a custom web crawler agent rather than youtube_dl's random user_agent.

import youtube_dl # set a custom agent (use facebook's web crawler) youtube_dl.utils.std_headers['User-Agent'] = "facebookexternalhit/1.1 (+http://www.facebook.com/externalhit_uatext.php)" # youtube_dl will now work as normal to collect # the song name & artist name video = youtube_dl.YoutubeDL({}).extract_info( youtube_url, download=False) song_name = video["track"] artist = video["artist"]

Echt schwierig also.
Was meint ihr dazu?

2020.07.07 01:56 Dungeon_Dice JoJo's Bizarre Adventure OC Tournament #5: Round 1 Match 25: Arthur and Tracy Vs Bang and Wrenn

The results are in for Match 23. The winner is…
Inch Nine, with a score of 66 to Art Jolson’s 57!
Category Winner Point Totals Comments
Popularity Tie 15-15
Quality Black Hill Estate 22-20 Reasoning
JoJolity Black Hill Estate 19-12 Reasoning
Conduct TEAM 10-10
The eccentric stranger had proven somewhat of a threat in a fight, but in the end, Inch Nine managed to make it out in one piece, still standing, even if hurting a lot in the process, and certainly going to get that goddamn jacket for Ian she came here for in the first place. After processing her thoughts, she realized with some abhorrence.
Did I… Seriously beat someone half to death over a rubber duck? With the host having long since had the box closed, and even wheeled away in the chaos, her mind had eased slightly, realizing the absurdity of such a thing, and yet, thinking back upon it, could still only find appealing ideas of the lovely little yellow fella. Cairo Satori… What the hell are you up to?
As she quietly contemplated this, with a flourish of some installed confetti and smoke effects, Cairo and ‘Peach Pit’ emerged again, looking eager to give their congratulations to Inch. “Alright, you did it, nice job,” they started, and as they approached, several differently-clad anime-looking boys emerged from the shadows at their gesture, dragging Art away. “Don’t worry about him, yeah? Like I said, I’ve spared no expense on getting a damn good healer on staff just for this. So if he can’t make it through something like that, you know who to sue for malpractice!”
“Not like that’s gonna happen, or that you’d need to worry about it if it was,” Peach Pit added. “We’re really sorry about having to drag you into that, but it’s not like a fight wasn’t going to happen anyways. We just made sure it could happen safely, yeah?” The stand shrugged and gestured out at the state of the store overall. “Nobody died, all the damage is covered on insurance, and uh- you get to take that jacket home for free, completely unstressed about whether or not you’re gonna find yourself in a fight where something big is actually on the line?”
Cairo cleared their throat and stepped in front of the stand, trying to keep the focus away from the fact that they’d just fabricated a brutal fight, regardless of how safe it was or how fated anyone was to come to blows in the first place. “Uh, right! Obviously it’s unfortunate that it played out like this, and I’d like to apologize again, but before you go, um,” They just looked you over for a second before continuing, “Just in case, I should ask, are you good to leave without getting patched up too?”
Two experts in their field, masters of muscle and electricity, are currently engaged in perhaps the pettiest and strangest variant of the trolley problem to date, and as of when this match goes up there is still about a day to vote in that!
Narration:
Mr. Jones had been utterly brazen in his flouting of his favor with the fates, hijacking a bifrost server and livestreaming the fight for their lives which Manta Malaise, Casey Jones, and many others struggled for their lives against him, and those few who had seen this video had with them some hope that, with Jillian Heart writing a truly in-depth article about the experiences of herself and the other survivors, utterly exposing him, even if Manta Malaise had spared his life, he would face some justice.
Yet before the night was up, Miss Palmer, his accomplice, had turned herself in, confessing to everything which the pillar of the community had done as Conqueror Worm, and bringing with her evidence which even the Stand-authorities of the city needed to consider: she had, just before it would be needed, developed a Stand, [Dresden Dolls], which could allow her to create a strong animated facsimile of any humanoid form of any size, albeit a hollow, fragile one, which could store anything.
Most believed the story published by the Fortuna Hermod, rather than its competitor which employed Jillian, and those who saw the truth for what it was were deeply frustrated. One took it the hardest of all, but they were not the sort to break.
They would fight.
Scenario:
Two young men sat in a convertible, admiring their shiny new helmets, part of their silver, eye-design-plastered ensemble that would make up the new body armor of their neighborhood watch association, as they drove up to a house in West Aurelio, seeing a father and son play with a basketball hoop in their driveway before a small house. Their little game was interrupted by the sound of a horn honking, both backing away in a mixed apprehension which, in a short time, had become learned.
“Afternoon, Finger Family!” One of the motorists said, stepping out of the vehicle and resting the hand on the stun baton which sat at his hip. He had on his half-exposed face a grin, feeling like some of the favorite pop cultural icons of his which he’d always taken at face value.
“Fuck do you kids want now?” The father said, stepping before his son and attempting to make himself taller. “Don’t you ever patrol anywhere else?”
“Hey, Neighborhood Watch has to go where we’re needed! And this neighborhood, on this side of the river…” He waved his baton about, and the man tried not to flinch. “Well, there’s always infractions here to find. Our own founder, you know, a murderer was right under his nose… You can’t trust anybody anywhere these days, and danger could be lurking in any unassuming house.”
“Or you might be trying to burn evidence, like that old manor!” The driver added, before gesturing to their living room window. “Yet I see the curtains closed… Totally un-drawn, so nobody can see in your house. And I know what you’re going to say, ‘but your Watchliness, our house is so messy, we can’t see in!’ Well, that’s an infraction too, you know, unpresentable living rooms… So you’re normalizing something that lets people like Miss Palmer get by unscathed, AND you’re not living up to the town beauty standards!”
“Fuckin’ curtain rules now, are you serious?” The Finger father stepped forward, as if daring the man half his age to try some shit, “you’re gonna start dressing like Robocop or some shit, go actually bother somewhere it matters? I didn’t bust my ass to get this house so some kid playin’ army can scare half the damn neighborhood away!”
The man was wise enough not to advance within stunning range, simply gesturing at the ‘for sale’ signs at the abandoned buildings on either side of him, but the armored guy was both terrified and power tripping anyway, and began to rush at him, swinging his baton.
It swung, and only hit the armored boy square in the jaw, shocking him, sending him reeling back into the rapid descent of a black and orange motorcycle from a nearby tree, landing atop him on its single front-facing wheel.
Bleeding from his mouth, helmet half-knocked off, the cruel boy whimpered, realizing what a weight seemed precariously balanced atop his chest, staring eye-to-obscured eye into the dark glass of a motorcycle helmet’s visor.
“H-heheh, hey, I was just… Just trying to scare him a bit!” The coward waved his hands, “teach him not to fuck with us you know? I wasn’t really gonna hit him don’t be a fucking psychopahtHAAAGHHH!” The bike was revved, and the front wheel spun and spun and spun, and then the bike seemed to speed off and away, leaving him barely alive and his shiny new armor cracked.
The son, who had been watching this all in silence, instinctively recording with his phone, traced it all as the other Watch member did not hesitate to drive away, only for his back wheels to seem to start revving in opposite directions from the front, then jerk the car into its side as the cyclist drew closer.
Father Finger, meanwhile, just sighed, moving to walk into his house. Where the hell is the neighborhood going..? Makes me wonder what I ever saw in this place. And if my kids were out here alone… goddamn curtains, swear to god…
Aurelio Precinct - Suburbs
Compared to the more elaborate offices of VALKYRIE, or the various Downtown PD, the building where Chief Churchyard and Inspector River worked was a small, one-story affair, featuring a lobby, a pair of bathrooms, two holding cells, a visiting room, and a moderate-sized office space/equipment locker mix. Some of the cramped areas reminded Arthur Lifeson and Tracy Von Kehr of the little cramped spaces underneath their strip mall base, full of unique and elaborate secret entrances.
“There art killers in our midst…” Arthur had explained to Tracy when he dragged her out for backup. “We were none the wiser to Remix’s fell nature until he was out of our midst, and now, an innocent woman has fallen into distress whilst the word of another true killer is out there. We must away with her and unearth the truth!”
“Innocent, I would not call her, when Miss Palmer did this willingly…” Tracy mused with her typical smile, “but, semantics. Yes, it doesn’t sit right with me either, the lived experiences being ignored for a twitter confession, and she might know how it is that happened. And the two of us, I think, could extract the truth from her.”
They were blocked at the entrance, though, not just by the androgynous-looking bespectacled brunette in an ‘inspector’ badge boredly minding the reception desk, but by the utter giant impossibly squeezing himself through the doorways, looking the pair over through his sunglasses as he towered over them both. Chief Churchyard, Suburban Regalia had come to know him as by now, and by now they had thought him little a threat, but here, there were bags under his eyes big enough to be seen through his shades, and stubble had graced his face.
“We’re not letting visitors in to see Palmer. If that’s what you want, go away.” Church was either sharper than they had seen before, or guessed lucky.
“I’ve got this,” Arthur assured, stepping forward, chest puffed, “good sheriff, I am a knight in my own right, and I seek to do a justice above our jurisdiction, and-”
“You’re another one of those types who believes Jill Heart’s story, huh?” Churchyard asked, grumbling a frustrated interruption. “Mr. Jones is… I know, he’s a complicated guy, but right now, he’s hurting more, more vulnerable, than ever. He couldn’t even bear to keep his post here, had to take some time off, entrusted it to me… And the last thing he did before his time off? In this time of finding out the woman he was dating killed dozens of people and tried to frame him for it? Last thing he does is try to ramp up the security of his neighborhood watch, increase rules for them to enforce, give them more equipment so they can be safe from people like that.”
That only concerned both Stand Users more, and so Tracy asked, not fully trusting Arthur not to do something rash, “of course, of course, but still… There are mysteries to unearth, which require people of our ‘persuasions,’ you know? If people need protecting from those like this Aurelio killer… We can surely be of use getting into the mind of the guilty party?”
“…prove it, then.” Churchyard said, producing a phone and a blurry camera photo that had been sent to him. “You saw that video that went up, right? Of the ‘Black Angel’ retaliating hard against two Watch members…” Arthur and Tracy nodded, both recognizing the video in question. “Those guys were being jackasses, I can’t deny that. You give power-tripped teenagers weapons and some meaningless post and just watch ‘em abuse it to every level they can… I know they’re mad at the world but that doesn’t mean they can put two kids in the ER!”
Tracy and Arthur exchanged looks, having caught something, and then Arthur spoke, stepping forward, “so you say this citywide vigilante has sent two power-tripping, powerless guardsmen to your apothecary… Are you asking us to do your king’s justice when we do not bow to him?”
“This ain’t about loyalty, or Mr. Jones, or anything like that. I’m just holding this post as a favor to a good friend who’s helped me out of a lot of binds, and nobody has a lick of respect for me so I can’t rein them in, but… But the Angel’s gonna kill someone like this, go extreme, or get the wrong crowd on their back. So, uh… Track ‘em down for me, yeah? I want to make sure they know that just because you’re fighting evil doesn’t make you good, alright? And, uh… If you do get ‘em to stop, say it was because of me, yeah? Maybe these fuckin’ kids will pay attention when I speak if I’m actually responsible for something more than yelling a lot. Here, uh, Mr. Jones even left me the keys to his favorite sports car, said to keep it for my troubles. But I think you’ll need it more, to catch up with a bike like that…”
“Well, then,” Tracy answered, still not quite sure she trusted the intentions of this man, but well aware that he was useful enough to them to accept on her and Arthur’s behalf, “consider us deputized, if it gets you to stop this, and gets us a conversation with Miss Palmer.”
Captains All Country Club - Hole 18
An elderly giantess swung her Iron, and the Par 5 hole was conquered in a single stroke. Superintendent Anastasia, clad in a sweater vest, visor cap, and her usual hand-shaped sunglasses, produced a pair of binoculars and glanced towards the green, nodding and huffing as she flexed with the club. “A hole in one… No matter the sport, I’ve still got it. Could still go pro if I could leave this place.”
The two young men, each outwardly polite and hiding baggage in their own ways, simply stood in silence, neither caring much for golf, but still more than a little impressed and intimidated by the sight. Still, though, neither had come here for this, and it was the longer-haired, sweater-and-skirt-clad of the pair who spoke up to this end first. “Yes, nice job, Superintendent! But of course you didn’t call us out here just to watch you play a perfect run of golf, right? You didn’t have us come all the way out here on a summer day just for that, right?” Wrenn Aflight’s voice was sickeningly high and sweet and brimming with passive-aggression and contempt for the heat.
Bang “Boogie” Bronson, meanwhile, was trying to be quieter, more polite, even as his own frustration and discomfort grew. Wrenn had barely ever interacted with anyone on the team, mostly off in his own little self-important world, a world which Bang was still not sure he wanted any part of as he looked over him and the way he carried himself. Yet for some reason, when it was announced the Aurelio school district Superintendent wanted to talk to friends of Casey Williams, Wrenn had actually up and volunteered to come along… Still, he was trying to figure out why. “If it… Isn’t any trouble, ma’am… We’ve got a lot on our plates too… You asked. You asked for us because of Casey, right? Which means, really, you asked for us because of something to do with M-Mister…”
“With Mr. Jones, yes, but also no,” Anastasia said, heading towards her golf cart (Bang and Wrenn had been riding in it and could barely keep up with her foot speed), fishing through her bag and producing two pieces of hard candy, “and I apologize for spending so long waiting to start talking… When sports are on the mind, that’s where the mind goes. Here, have some candy as an apology, alright?”
Bang watched as Wrenn offered a sweet, “thank you~!” and then mimed putting it in his mouth without even unwrapping the plastic, convincingly swallowing as it disappeared down his large sleeve. Bang’s refusal, meanwhile, was more blatant. He almost had before Wrenn refused, and after all, he wasn’t a kid. He locked eyes with Anastasia, popping open his vodka and taking a massive swig.
That made her grin, actually. “Hahah! My grandson did exactly the same once, when I crashed one of his parties to embarrass those teens out of a brain cell killing good time… Always the self-assured one, Taylor.” Then, she removed her sunglasses, showing to them the tiredness in her eyes, and her smile faded again. “Have you seen that latest video going about, of the Black Angel fighting two Watch members?”
“I have!” Wrenn, more comfortable speaking right now as Bang stewed in backfiring embarrassment at his attempt at maturity power plays, recalling the recording, “and I remember someone dressed just like that, motorbike and all, driving through a puddle right next to me… It almost ruined my favorite sweater! Really inconsiderate, don’t you think?”
“I’ve always sort of hated Mr. Jones, what he was doing… But I tried to be civil nonetheless, and focus on what it was we had in common. Love for the spirit of volunteering, of showing that there is more to life than financial success. I let myself overlook every red flag he had, and never thought that he might be killing people… And I don’t buy a word of the stories saying it was Miss Palmer. She’s not smart enough to concoct plans like this, and I trust the resolve and word of Jillian Heart,” Anastasia said, pausing soberly. “That ‘Watch’ of his focused so much on West Aurelio, the poorest parts of our town, and now, after that little controversy, suddenly they have military-grade equipment, and they’re ramping that up worse than ever, bullying people to the point where they’re selling their homes to get away from it… There are some ideas which are truly toxic, and that man has poisoned this town and gotten away with it.”
Bang trembled as Anastasia spoke, trying to maintain his stiff look as he heard her out, wondering if it was truly impossible for certain viewpoints to coexist, yet at the same time, still trying to process all that had happened himself. He had a traumatic past with Manta Malaise, and yet they had helped save his dear friend Casey’s life, along with all those others… And then, presumably, went and spared Mr. Jones’ in turn. “What does… What does this have to do with that ‘Angel?’”
“People like you two are ‘fated’ to run into people like them, right? So… Track them down for me, yes? And let them know, no matter how dour things turn, how dire things get in this town… ‘Don’t turn your back on the town. You have friends, allies, and those who also can see the way things are going.’” She moved to put her club away, then handed Wrenn an electronic car key. “Take this, alright? It’s to that auburn sports car in the parking lot. I was going to give it to my grandson for his graduation, but… You will need it if you’re to catch up with the Angel, I’m sure.”
Wrenn, for a moment, was conflicted, his sole interaction with this ‘Angel’ having been an unpleasant one, but seeing the look of need and pain in this old woman’s face, he couldn’t bear to say no to her, trying his hardest to rationalize some way to make this pragmatic. Eh, he would retroactively find one later. His hand closed around the key. “We’ll do what we can!”
“Thank you.” Anastasia smiled. “This has been a delightful afternoon… And perhaps my last one here. If they don’t revoke Mr. Jones’ membership, I’m turning in mine. Even if he gets off scot-free, I am through associating with men like him.”
Later, in town…
“This car is… Pretty cool, I have to admit,” Bang mused aloud, sitting in a parking lot as he and Wrenn downed their takeout, parked with the motor running in a random plaza. “Kinda wanna see how fast this baby can go… You know, on open road.”
“Well, maybe we’ll get our chance to,” Wrenn answered, sounding more relaxed still, yet paradoxically in a forced way. “We just have to hang around until we hear word of this ‘Angel…’ It probably won’t be too far behind trouble if they’re in the area, right? And I’ll give them a piece of my mind when we’re being heroes!”
“OH GOD IT’S THE BLACK KNIGHT”
“HE’S JUGGLING EXPLODING CARS HELP US”
That shouting from a few blocks away, certainly, piqued the curiosity of the pair, the sound of frightened calling, vandalizing explosions, and a roaring motorbike calling them towards the scene in question, swerving past people panicking to find already the aftermath of a Stand Battle, albeit a brief skirmish, between a figure on a motorbike and a grown-ass man armored and riding a scooter, standing amidst the wreckage atop his ride and declaring, “FOOLISH! I am not the legally dead Black Knight Penitentiary Album. I… am the DEATH KNIGHT PENITENTIARY ALBUM!”
After a few seconds, the giant scootered away. “And know this is NOT over, Angel! The death never dies! Unlike the very dead black knight, who I! AM! NOT!”
“A new dark knight, right after the last one died..?” Bang questioned, his tone making his joking intent unclear. “I guess… Penitentiary Album had his fans…”
“I’m sure,” Wrenn remarked dryly, skeptically, before pointing out the obvious: after that strangely brief battle, to the apprehensive cheers and watchful eye of the crowd (and zero help from the armored neighborhood watch member drinking at the booth in the wrecked sports bar), the dark-clad motorcyclist immediately sped off towards the Northern road out of town. “No need to think about that, though!”
Elsewhere, parked behind the building, Tracy grinned at the sight of the Angel driving away from the battle scene. “Ah, yes, I knew the ‘Death Knight’ would draw them out for a fight… but they realized the diversion quickly. Sharp one. Now to see where the ‘Angel’ flies.”
“We’ve more to worry about than that,” Arthur declared, gesturing at the sports car tailing them, “it seems someone else seeks to quarrel with this Angel… But be they friend or foe? Hark! Forward is the only way we may learn!”
North of Aurelio lays the single paved road to lead, technically, out of the city, though it is a pass through frigid mountains in which, no matter the time of year, a layer of snow always seems to be upon it. The road is uneven, ill-maintained by those with no reason to believe they shall ever leave by it, and only the most expert of drivers even stand a chance of surviving the effort to drive through it… And even they, in turn, cannot make it out still.
Due to its nature, location, and the frequency of automobile deaths in these mountains, the pass is known by the people of the Metropolitan area as the “Middle Finger” of the city.
Arthur could see his breath before him, moving to crank the heat on the car as Tracy fired up the wipers. “This is where they’ve retreated to..? This dank tarn, I feel we’ve passed it once already.”
“We’re being led in circles,” Tracy agreed, “but this, isn’t so bad… We will learn this area with dental precision, odd bumps and all. Just keep watch for any trouble.”
Bang shivered slightly, cranking up his own car’s heat, then noting Wrenn looking at him in the corner of his eye, asking, “you cold, Bang? You should try getting nice puffy clothes like this… This sweater’s super cozy!”
“I’m… F-fine,” he said, defiantly, taking a sip from one of his flasks, “this will keep me warm… Just. Just focus on the road.” He tried to look at Wrenn, then turned his attention towards the rearview mirror. “We’re still being followed. So no way these are just people trying to… F-find the road North.”
The cars continued after the Black Angel, however, even as they were led in circles by someone who clearly knew this area so much better than any of them, trying to formulate how they would get into touch with someone who had to know they were being pursued. None of these rides were even teasing their top speed in this snow, but eventually, at the highest point of the pass, they started to drive down a wood bridge so frequently ignored before, the easiest way back South into town, generally considered sturdy, reliable enough, but as the others approached, they looked to one side in alarm, and to the confusion of everyone, took a hard veer off of the bridge.
“Hmmm?” Wrenn.
“Why is-?” Tracy.
“A trap!” Arthur.
“…” Bang.
Regardless of their words, soon after, it became apparent what had prompted the retreat attempt: something further along the bridge had somehow downed it, the entire thing was plummeting to uselessness before them, and neither car was thin enough like a motorbike to try and turn around. Before they could even hope to back away, they were falling, and they were screaming, the quick-thinking parts of their brains thankful, at least, that there was a definite section of road beneath them instead of sharp, steep mountain or frigid lake.
As they plummeted, both parties needed to duck, large pieces of bridge coming at their car in the winds fast and hard enough that the entire tops of their car, sans windshields, were shredded away, leaving the expensive cars topless but the drivers miraculously alive. Meanwhile, on the road beneath them, the figure sped by again, the outline of something else emerging beside it.
As the Angel drove by, the snow-obscured form pointed up at the underside of their cars, and some noise was drowned out by the whirring of motors as they sped off and away again down the road, the teams feeling something repeatedly impact the bottoms of their cars.
Miraculously, both cars landed completely upright on the road just below them, and though the riders were shaken by their descent, and the bridge completely gone, they were unharmed, and able to keep riding, Wrenn the first to do so, followed shortly after by Suburban Regalia.
“Halt, ‘Angel!’ You will answer for what you have done!” Arthur called out as the lot advanced, turning towards Tracy. “You can keep pace, yes? I have a feeling the knaves before us do quarrel with us. They stand in our way, and so, the knightly thing to do is to cut them down, should they raise their Stands to our own!”
“Ja, of course, of course,” Tracy answered, grinning and tightening her grasp on the wheel, “you are the one who needs your hands more right now… This perilous road, it could kill any clumsy motorist who tried to dare it, but not I! Not us! I am an expert, precise and skilled, and I’ve faced mouths thrice as exciting as this road.” And then, as a last-ditch effort at piece, she called, “hey, kids, pull over! We have work to do!”
“Ohhh, just lo~ovely,” Wrenn remarked aloud to his partner, looking behind them with his Stand, “those guys are after the Angel, too! So now, for helping that old timer, we’re out here in the middle of nowhere, and we’re gonna have to fight ‘em off just because she asked nicely! Isn’t that swell?”
“Y-yes, it seems that’s their intention.” Bang shivered from the cold. “And… I don’t know a lot about what’s happened here, but this Angel, the way they fight and act… They’re standing in the way of something relentless, something terrible.” Through Wrenn’s passive-aggressive frustration, Bang silently felt his impression of him changing. Regardless of all that griping and grumbling, he still was not hesitating to help this person, even if it meant fending off other probable Stand Users in altitudes and temperatures like these. Regardless of all that, now wasn’t the time to be caught up in his polite demeanor, narrowing his eyes and feeling his cold body warmed through the heating of his blood and pumping of his heart. “Let’s wreck these two.”
The Masters, the Regalia, and the Angel sped up.
OPEN THE GAME!
Location: A perilous roadway mountain pass in the Northernmost outskirts of the city. A layer of thin snow covers everything, but enough of it has been cleared away that you can at least tell reliably where the road is… And boy, is this road a pain in the ass. Sections of it have literally fallen away due to disrepair and insufficient attention, leaving only a snowy ravine under a naturally-formed ramp of sorts, which you will need to speed over to reach the next section of road, and you get turned around so easily that you are driving around in circles. At the start, MFAs are 30 meters ahead of SR, and 30 meters behind the Black Angel. Players are in high-end sports cars which have recently been accidentally made into convertibles, with starting drivers being Tracy and Wrenn. There is a significant drop between the Southwesternmost pieces of the road, the remains of what was supposed to be your bridge out of here instead creating an incline which gives you more than enough space to reliably stunt-jump the twenty meter drop between that and the ‘starting point’ of the road below.
Now, while the road layout is quite similar to a course many would know as “Polar Pass,” it isn’t necessarily completely 1:1 with its namesake. Booster pads aren’t a thing, and where marked with down arrows, only a very steep, bumpy drop down the mountain awaits. The shingled green section of the map represents sections of mountain at steep, roughly 85 degree angles, 25 meters high, the brown strip represents a wooden plank bridge, and the blue represents freezing cold water from a mountainous pond. The grey section represents a section of road underneath a section of natural rock tunnel. At most points in the stage (such as the start), the road has enough lanes to account for up to three cars’ widths, with sections like the bridge thin enough to only handle one. Also unlike the original track, none of the sections of road are iced over - someone has cleared those up for safe traversal, though there are no guardrails literally anywhere.
Goal: RETIRE your opponents!
Additional Information: These cars have tires properly suited for driving in deep snow, and can take insane amounts of abuse, even if individual pieces of them can be destroyed - you can literally be down to a wrecked chassis, and it will still operate and not fall apart; can’t speak much for the safety or comfort of such a thing, though. They have decent handling, and can also reach a maximum speed of 250 miles per hour in 20 seconds, but actually achieving and maintaining anything close to such speeds on most of these turns and in this weather is inadvisable (we won’t knock your jojolities for not constantly hitting near-250). Both player parties are moving at 60 mph at the start of the match.
The sheer adrenaline and peril of this situation has granted all four player characters a 4 in Stunt Driving - out of want to not become a splatter in the snow, every single player character is a truly amazing driver, but to do anything truly impossible would still require some ingeniousness from their other abilities.
The Black Angel, meanwhile, is running something resembling the WR for the original track. Generally, they are absolutely masterful at dodging attempts to attack them, masterfully swerving out of the way of such efforts. They won’t actively antagonize either team.
If ever one car is knocked off of the track or flipped over and unable to recover, five seconds afterwards, it will suddenly be lifted back into the center of whatever section of road is the closest, at a shaky but reliable B Speed - any damage sustained to the vehicle or its occupants by the fall in that time still will have happened, however. If you’ve played a kart racing game and fallen out of bounds, you know how this works. If an active attempt to harm the Black Angel is made, the guilty team will no longer receive this aid.
Team Combatant JoJolity
Masters of Funky Action Bang “Boogie” Bronson “I beg your pardon, Mr. Joestar, but I’m perfectly aware of what I’m doing. I’m not an idiot.” You’ve been entrusted with a lot of big responsibilities here, and this car is one of those… It wouldn’t be very mature for you to disappoint on anything. Do what you can to keep your ride in decent physical condition as you fight and drive!
Masters of Funky Action Wrenn Aflight “By the way, are you familiar with Sumo? Specifically, about the tactics at the end of the ring… Exciting, isn’t it!” Okay now the Angel is just showing off, and if anyone is showing off, they’re sure as hell not gonna be better at it than you! Make creative usage out of your car as you speed along the pass!
Suburban Regalia Tracy Von Kehr “Whoa! He got his car up on two wheels!” You don’t want to lose track of or be outshone by your target now, right? Make creative usage out of your car as you speed along the pass!
Suburban Regalia Arthur Lifeson “If we mess up, we crash! We have to time the turns with our other senses.” If you’re to pursue this target with the regality a knight ought to have, your chariot cannot be in utter shambles. Do what you can to keep your ride in decent physical condition as you fight and drive!

2020.04.28 06:14 gnikivar2 The Ghost of Pandemics Past: HIV in South Africa, Russia, and Uganda

The last global pandemic to terrify society was HIV/AIDS, a virus that has infected 75 million people and killed 32 million. HIV was a disease that in its early stages was easy to ignore because it was most often found in stigmatized groups of people such as sex workers, men who have sex with men, and injectible drug users. However, HIV has spread into much wider and today, nearly 1% of the world's population is HIV positive. In this podcast episode I will be exploring the factors that have exacerbated the spread of HIV. In part one, I will discuss the massive racial, economic, and gender inequalities that have exacerbated the HIV epidemic in South Africa. In part two, I will describe the role social stigma and discriminatory and cruel practices have led to the unchecked growth of HIV in South Africa. Finally, in part three, I will discuss how economic growth paradoxically led to the growth of HIV in Uganda.
South Africa today is the epicenter of the global HIV pandemic with over 12 million HIV positive people making up 20.8% of South Africa's total population. South Africa's HIV pandemic cannot be understood without first exploring the massive structural inequalities that have long defined South Africa. Apartheid's strict residency laws that forbid black families from permanently settling in cities, and the labor demands of South Africa's booming mining economy led to one member of 36% of households working as a migrant in the mines. Men largely lived in single sex labor barracks, where the use of sex workers unsurprisingly became common, creating an environment where STD could spread rapidly. Miners are six times more likely to have HIV than non-miners, and migration from neignoring southern African nations paying a key role in the growth of HIV throughout southern Africa. South Africa today has the highest gini coefficient, a standard measure of inequality, in the world with levels of HIV prevalence shaped by this inequality. For example, women who live in the most unequal decile of municipalities have positive HIV rates more than 4 times the least unequal decile. Massive economic inequality creates situations where desperately poor women have transactional sex with richer men for money. Finally, gender inequality has exacerbated the HIV crisis in South Africa. 17.41% of women in southern Africa face non-partner sexual violence, among the highest in the world placing women in situations where coercion and fear of force makes it difficult to say no to sex, or demand a condom. On top of these inequalities, was government incompetence in dealing with HIV. Thabo Mbeki, president of South Africa from 1999 to 2008, believed conspiracy theories that HIV was not the cause of AIDS, and refused to invest in life saving anti-retroviral treatments even when pharmaceutical companies gave medication free of cost even as neighboring countries scaled up their programs. The cost of inaction by Mbeki's government was the excess mortality of 365,000 deaths.
South Africa is hardly alone in denying the reality of HIV. Since the first to suffer from HIV are often men who have sex with men, sex workers and injectable drug users, societies ignore the dangers of HIV. Russia has approximately 1.8 million injectable drug users, originally the primary vector of transmission of HIV in Russia. Instead of following harm reduction policies the government has chosen to crack down on drug use. Approximately 200,000 drug users are in Russian prisons, methadone treatment is banned, and organizations that provide clean needles face continuous harassment. The Russian state today is closely allied with the Orthodox church which is fiercely opposed to any outreach to the gay community, and sex education has been severely curtailed. At the same time NGOs that provide information about HIV and access to testing and treatment have been hounded for having international ties, and LGBT employees. Russia has also made little effort to provide treatment to HIV positive people. Today, only 36% of Russians receive ARV treatment, one of the lowest rates in the world. Less than 20% of HIV positive drug users receive ARV treatment, and just 5% of HIV positive prisoners receive ARV treatment. In addition to saving lives, treatment for HIV reduces the viral load to the point that transmission of HIV is neglible. The lack of prevention or treatment in Russia has resulted in Russia having one of the fastest growing HIV outbreaks in the world. Today, approximately 1.3% of Russia is HIV positive, and the number of new infections in Russia is increasing by 10-15% a year. Moreover, the percent of HIV transmitted through heterosexual sex is steadily rising, putting more and more Russians, even Russians not seen as "deviant" at risk. Ironically, the Russian government has the capacity to be effective when it wants to be. For example, the Russian government has almost eliminated Mother to Child Transmission of HIV. It is possible HIV will grow to an uncontrollable point because the government was unwilling to act.
The growth of HIV can just as much be the result of policy success as policy failure. Yoweri Museveni, as I described in a previous podcast episode, restored economic growth to Uganda after decades of misrule by Idi Amin, and brutal civil war. Economic growth in Uganda was consistently above 6% a year in the 1980s and 1990s, international trade grew seven-fold between 1986 and 2000, and the population of Kampala increased five-fold during this same period. The result of this economic growth was large number of truck drivers carrying goods, and male migrants streaming into urban slums, both populations susceptible to contracting HIV. Research has found every doubling of exports results in a four-fold increase in HIV, with 30-60% of Uganda's growth in HIV explained by increased economic activity. Moreover, HIV rates are consistently between 25-32% for truckers, and HIV rates are higher along major transportation corridors. HIV rates are also higher in urban areas, and the more affluent southern provinces. HIV rapidly soared in Uganda, and by 1991 10.4% of Ugandan adults were HIV positive. However, economic growth and the growth in institutional capacity responsible for the economic growth allowed Uganda to successfully combat HIV. Government and civil society worked together to educate the public about the risks of HIV, and expand access to testing. Access to antiretroviral treatment was expanded and made free. These programs have successfully allowed to dramatically reduce the prevalence of HIV from 10.4% of the population to 5.7% of the population.
The explosion of HIV in South Africa, Russia and Uganda leave important warnings for out current fight against COVID-19. For example, systematic racial inequality has drastically increased mortality among black people in the United States. Assumptions about who could act as vectors for COVID-19 led to decisions made upon false assumption. Finally, COVID-19 has disproportionately hit the most vital nodes of the global economy. While there are important lessons to be learned from looking at the successes other nations have had at containing and reducing levels of HIV, which I will explore in the second part of this miniseries.

2020.04.28 06:09 gnikivar2 The Ghost of Pandemics Past: HIV in South Africa, Russia, and Uganda

2019.12.29 21:53 popcodswallop [WTS] VINTAGE • Early Hard Rubber Watermans and Parkers with Superflex Nibs: Wat 12 ED Wat 12 1/2 PSF Wat 12 ED Wat 52 Parker Jack-Knife 20 1/2 •

This week's vintage batch features 5 early FPs in black chased hard rubber from Waterman and Parker. All have delightful Super-Flexible XF/XXF nibs ideally suited to calligraphic writing styles such as Copperplate and Spencerian. As always, all pens are fully restored and ready to write.

ALBUM & TIMESTAMP

Pastable link: https://imgur.com/a/rhMM3l9

Condition (n.b.): All pens listed below have been disassembled, cleaned and restored with new sacs installed in the lever fillers and threads greased on the eyedroppers in the couple months. Each of these pens guaranteed to fill and write as designed without leaks or other problems. Nibs have been adjusted when necessary to ensure that all lay down a smooth and consistent line.
THESE PENS HAVE NO CRACKS, CHIPS, PERSONAL ENGRAVINGS, MISSING PARTS, BENT NIBS, MISALIGNED TINES, OR THREADING ISSUES.

Line Widths and Writing Samples: To provide buyers with as much information as possible, I have started to adopt the following line width standards: XXF (.1-.2mm); XF (approx .3mm); F (approx .4mm); M (approx .6mm); B (approx .8mm). Nib flexibility is determined by variation (max line width under pressure) and softness (amount of pressure). Flexibility designations based on variation generally run as follows for an XF/F nib: Semi-Flex (approx. 1mm); Flex (1.2-1.9mm); Superflex (>2mm). All line width measurements are taken with a digital caliper but should be considered approximations providing a general guide. Width may vary slightly depending on type of ink and paper used as well as amount of pressure applied. All writing samples are on Rhodia dot paper using Waterman Serenity Blue or Pelikan Edelstein Smokey Quartz.

1. 1900s-10s Waterman No. 12 Eyedropper (BCHR, eyedropper filler, 14k XF/F Superflex nib). This full-length, standard girth model measures 5 1/4" capped. The No. 12 eyedropper is the simple, utilitarian pen that first put Waterman on the map. Made of black, chased hard rubber, it was otherwise unadorned, designed as it was to be a no-nonsense writer that reliably put ink to paper for the multitudes. This pen came clipless from the factory (no holes drilled for a clip) during a time when clips were an optional upgrade. Optional nickel-plated accommodation may be fitted on buyer's request for an extra $10. The section unscrews for the barrel to filled with ink using an eyedroppepipette – holds far more ink than a lever filler of the same size. My usual caveats about early eyedroppers apply here. Some extra care must be taken with them owing to the amount of ink is stored directly in the barrel and their primitive feeds. FP design had yet to be perfected so that it is common to find some excess ink on the nib or in the cap when they are uncapped (especially if carried). Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XF/F line that widens to a respectable 4B+ (approx 2.3mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Strong snap-back and impeccable flow through its full range of flex. Condition: very good [C]. This pen was well loved but is free of serious flaws. Hard rubber has faded to a chocolate brown color. Chasing is weak but visible. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel is weakened but still fully legible. Number stamp on barrel end is sharp and fully legible. Price: $155 SOLD

2. 1915-16 Waterman No. 12 1/2 PSF (BCHR w/ GF barrel bands, lever filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). This full-length, narrow girth (1/2 size) model measures 5 1/4" capped. The first Waterman lever fillers, which were only manufactured from 1915-17, were marked ‘PSF’ (Pocket Self Filler) on the end of the barrel. They are also distinguished by having raised threads on the barrel (as opposed to later, inset threads). This is an example in black, chased hard rubber with two gold-filled barrel bands intricately engraved with an Art Deco floral motif. This pen came clipless from the factory at a time when clips were available at an added cost to the customer. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow through its full range of flex. Condition: excellent- [B-]. Hard rubber isn't as oxidized as pen #1 above, but does show some fading to a dark chocolate color. Chasing shows moderate wear across barrel and cap. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Gold-filled furniture is extremely clean, showing no wear aside from thin slivers of brassing on the outer edges of the barrel band nearest the nib. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are weakened but still fully legible. Price: $180 SOLD

3. 1906-9 Waterman No. 12 Eyedropper (BCHR, NPT, eyedropper filler, 14k XXF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures 5 5/16" capped. The No. 12 eyedropper is the simple, utilitarian pen that first put Waterman on the map. Made of black, chased hard rubber, it was otherwise unadorned, designed as it was to be a no-nonsense writer that reliably put ink to paper for the multitudes. In addition to barrel and nib imprints, the patent dates on Waterman's clips provide crucial info about when their pens were made. The absence of a 1910 date on the clip of this example distinguishes this pen as a relatively early model, manufactured between 1906 and 1909. Super-Flexible 14k Ideal NY #2 nib lays down a smooth and consistent XXF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Needlepoint hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with virtually no fading. Chasing shows light wear but is still visible and palpable throughout. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated clip shows no notable wear whatsoever. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are weakened but still fully legible. **Price: ~~$210 $190~~ **SOLD

4. 1918-23 Waterman No. 52 (BCHR, NPT, lever filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures a hair under 5 1/2" capped. A fine example of Waterman's celebrated workhorse in black chased hard rubber with nickel-plated furniture. As on many of these pens, its Super-Flexible 14k Ideal #2 nib is a delightfully expressive write. It lays down a smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+ (approx 2.5mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Fine hairlines, strong snap-back and reliable flow over its full range of flex. Condition: excellent [B]. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with virtually no fading. Chasing shows light wear but is still visible and palpable throughout. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Nickel-plated furniture shows a spot of wear here and there – scarcely visible after a good polish. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel and number stamp on barrel-end are deep, sharp, and fully legible. Price: $240 $215 SOLD

5. c.1915 Parker Jack-Knife Lucky Curve No. 20 1/2 (BCHR, NPT, button filler, 14k XF Superflex nib). This full-length, std. girth model measures 5 3/8" capped. Manufactured roughly 3 decades after the company was founded in 1888, this early Parker features a Safety cap (marked "Jack Knife Safety" with a 1912 patent date) that was designed not to leak when carried. Rather than denoting the girth of the pen (cf. Watermans), Parker's numbering system used '1/2' to designate a chased model. This one is made of black, chased hard rubber with nickel plated clip, knurled HR blindcap and clip lock, and Lucky Curve "Xmas tree" feed. This pen is a button filler (see DETAIL PHOTO). To fill simply unscrew the blindcap, submerse the nib, and depress the brass button once. 14k Lucky Curve #2 nib is long-tined and features an early teardrop breather hole. This Super-Flexible nib lays down a buttery smooth and consistent XF line that widens to a 4B+(approx 2.4mm) under light pressure (see WRITING SAMPLE). Condition: excellent/near mint [B+]. This pen is a duplicate from my personal collection and you'd be hard pressed to find a nicer example. Hard rubber retains its dark black color with scarcely any fading. Chasing is as sharp and crisp as they come with no discernible wear. Surface is smooth and lustrous with no deep scratches or other notable blemishes. Knurling on clip-lock and blind cap is unbelievably sharp. Nickel-plated clip is clean aside from minor dulling of its luster toward the clip ball. Manufacturer imprint on the barrel, "Jack Knife" imprint on cap, and number stamp on blind cap are all factory deep, sharp, and fully legible. A time-capsule example of this pen and a lovely writer to boot. Price: $290 SOLD

2019.09.09 16:16 oliver_babish No one here has been more dismissive of rookie WR/TEs than me. But the data says something about week 1 breakouts.

If you've seen posts like this from me, or my charts on rookie TE performance like this one, you'd know that I believe steadfastly in ignoring rookie WRs for the first half of the season, and rookie TEs altogether. I said, over and over again: avoid the Hockenson hype, that other than Evan Engram in the year when ODB and Brandon Marshall went down, rookie TEs simply weren't worth owning.
So, okay, yesterday happened. Four rookie WTEs with 10+ FPs (standard), and if you're looking at PPR then you add DK Metcalf to the list. And I couldn't help but wonder: does a rookie passcatcher's week one performance tell us anything about the season which comes? Is our intuition correct that a rookie who's already in the game plan in week one, probably will be all season long?
I went over to Pro-Football-Reference to pull the chart: every rookie WR with 10+ FP (std) in week one, 1998-present.

And if you know anything about how these players' went (and if you don't, click on "View Original Table," then click on the player or his team), you'd know that for the most part, rookie pass-catchers who had strong week 1s had viable rookie seasons.
But DK Metcalf stans should review it.]
But on the whole? When you look at the best rookie WTE seasons across that same era, there's a good amount of overlap. Some rookies did take more time (ODB, Evans, Thomas, T Hill), but many of the ones who had strong week ones were worth investing in for the season.
What's the bottom line? Look, I still fade rookie performance enough that I'd rather invest in the Johns (Ross, Brown) than Terry McLovin or AJ Brown. I don't know what to make of Marquise Brown, because Miami. I'd rather bid on Danny Amendola than KeeSean Johnson. But this is your only chance to grab these guys, to the extent they're even available in your league, and there's enough data to support your investing in them right now. Don't be disappointed if you end up disappointed, but there's some rookie gold to be mined -- we just can't be sure who, yet. Good luck, everyone.

Post Body:

This religion fits in this community 100%. They stick to the Bible as their foundation. Beliefs being Bible based make them widely unpopular.
Here me out people. Look at where I’m coming from with this one. I’ve looked into several religions and a lot of things make them different.
A few examples:
They don’t go to war.
They don’t vote. They support Gods Kingdom/Government only.
They don’t believe in pre- marital sex. So no casual sex and no masturbation.
Much like lawyers being disbarred...if you agree to follow these rules and then you break them you can be “disbarred” so to speak only its called disfellowshipping meaning you can no longer say you are one of them. Another reason why they’re unpopular. You work hard to qualify to be one and then you can disqualify yourself if you fail to live up to the Bible or at least put forth an effort. No blatant hypocrisy is allowed.
I mean as a group they belong in the unpopular opinion community.
But the truth is if everyone lived their lives by the few examples listed then we wouldn’t have any unplanned pregnancies or std’s or broken families. No one would be dying in wars or families being torn apart by the army. And as for good government...I mean...come on...everyone wants good government.
Good government is what everyone is complaining about right now.
This is an unpopular opinion but it is what it is. This religion is widely hated even though it’s a Christian religion. Then again Jesus was hated too at his time. He even said wide is the road leading off into destruction...so that even is another reason to believe that they know the truth. The majority of people either HATE them or misunderstand them! The ones I’ve met have been decent and kind people.

There are a lot of sites offering details. You can google "Jehovah's Witnesses failed predictions". There's a wikipedia article that gives a quick summary: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Criticism_of_Jehovah's_Witnesses#Failed_predictions
I’m sure Noah was wrong about things from time to time but he was right about building and getting on the ark. Those 2 choices saved his life. All I’m saying.
Noah is a mythological character. He's right about building an ark because that's what the story calls for.

Well OpQuality I’m so happy that you are satisfied with your translation. A translation that you rely on people to translate for you. Whose to say that your translations didn’t have agendas? Who’s to say? Jehovah’s Witnesses reference many translations just so you know. Not just the NWT. They seek the truth by comparing what several translations say. I’m becoming more and more convinced that the truth is found here in Gods Word. Whatever translation we read. I prefer the one that restored Gods personal name. The Tetragrammaton YHWH was found over 7,00 in the ancient scrolls. There is only one person I could think of who would benefit from people not knowing Gods personal name. Hmmmm?
What’s the first thing you do when you want to establish a friendship with someone?
Hello, my name is _____. What’s yours?
The truth will set you free.

They stick to the Bible as their foundation.
They made up their own "translation" of the New Testament which is inaccurate in order to be able to use it to argue for their beliefs.
EDIT: Even the name "Jehovah" isn't accurate. It's the Hebrew letters for YHWH represented in German as JHVH. Then the vowels of "adonai" were inserted to get "JaHoVaiH." When Jehovah's Witnesses came along in the 1800s their founders didn't realize the word "Jehovah" only dates back to medieval times, not to Bibles times.

2018.03.15 13:04 peiartila [Question] HELP! Cellular data does not work on iPhone on iOS 11.1.2, possible important file deleted?

Cellular data does not ever work on my iPhone 8 Plus on iOS 11.1.2, both jailbroken and non-jailbroken. I only have the option to connect at 3G speeds.
In Settings-->Cellular-->Cellular Data Options, there are only two switches: "Enable 3G" and "Data Roaming".
I can make voice calls, but that's it.
I have tried Reset Network Settings, tried getting a new SIM from my carrier, and tried a new SIM from a different carrier. Still no luck.
It could be a hardware issue, but I was just getting started with Electra and I had almost no tweaks installed, and I'm sure TetherMe was never installed.
I was trying to debug the "Bad CPU type in executable" error at the time this started to happen. I thought I might have installed an incompatible package, so I followed TomLube 's guide to fix this here:
https://www.reddit.com/jailbreak/comments/7q6tz3/tutorialshit_me_i_did_a_topanga_remove_topanga/
To expedite the process, I simply extracted the tarball locally, generated a list of FILES using find . -type f, and then removed those FILES relative to /.
Ever since after I rebooted, I've been having this problem BOTH JAILBROKEN AND NON-JAILBROKEN, so I think an important file got deleted somewhere on that list of files to be deleted.
I have tried forcibly reinstalling all of the base packages. Everything seems to be working as it should except for the cellular data issue.
Someone mentioned in another thread that s/he experienced a similar issue possibly with TetherMe, so maybe these issues are related.
Here's the list of files that I deleted:

VODs from Week 1 & 2 can be found in our wiki here. Due to characters limit we ran into in the middle of Week 5, we figured it'd be better to transfer this to wiki instead of creating a new thread and possibly running out of space once again before Spring Split is over.

2015.03.30 18:09 saraherpes Another photo album for you.

http://www.reddit.com/STD/comments/22j7v2/trying_to_google_pics_of_herpes_is_frustrating/
This post inspired me to help out and add my first outbreak. Outbreaks are so different for everyone, even mine looked nothing like hers. She did post extremely informative information and it is helpful to see pictures, at least for me. So I'm adding mine.
Apparently I can't imgur. These shots are taken daily from day one, scroll from the bottom up. Day 4 was when I made it to urgent care and the doctor said "if it looks like a duck and quacks like a duck, it's a duck." I was prescribed acyclovir for breakouts, but advised to just not take it this round and build antibodies, since I had already waited 4 days to test.
Today is day 11, and my outbreak is almost healed. The pain stopped around day 6, and for me, I would have described it more as an uncomfortable nuisance than physical pain. It really isn't that bad. I've already told my potential partner that while we were on our first date I was experiencing my first break out. He said he was ok with it, So people are more understanding than you might think!

So the GF's laptop has been running very slowly lately, 5 seconds to close a window, 10 seconds to open youtube etc, the system resources never got above 10% during this time so I know it isn't taxing the laptop, it's just shit slow, and that's even after a partial format and re-install of windows as she had a load of viruses (no STD jokes please...NO!)

2013.04.22 19:52 nabokovian Jackson JSON object assembly and disassembly

Hello /learnprogramming,
I am not well versed in Java so I apologize if the following is frightening.
I am trying to stringify what I think is an JSON object that I have assembled, so that I can send it back to the web client that requested it.
As you'll see in the code below, I start out with an ArrayList of "quote" objects (ArrayList) that each contain some fields. I'd like to create the equivalent of a HashMap in JSON (id, status) from this ArrayList of quote objects. I am imagining the JSON structure to be basically this:
{ uniqueId1 : someStatus, uniqueId2 : someStatus, uniqueId3 : someStatus, .... }
This is the code that I think is managing to create the JSON equivalent of a HashMap (or in JSON terms, "objects"):
public JsonMessageAssembler(){ // constructor this.jsonUpdateMap = new ObjectMapper(); } .... public void createJsonFromQuoteData(ArrayList quotes) { for (Quote quote : quotes){ this.jsonUpdateMap.createObjectNode().put(quote.getId().toString(), quote.getStatus()); } }
So after populating jsonUpdateMap, I then need to "disassemble it" (I think what I mean here is "deserialize" but am hesitant to use the term), because I need to send it as a String to the PrintWriter object of the Servlet (I don't think this part is necessary to include here).
I have tried the following:
this.jsonUpdateMap.writeValueAsString(jsonUpdateMap);
but this causes the error:
No serializer found for class org.codehaus.jackson.map.introspect.JacksonAnnotationIntrospector and no properties discovered to create BeanSerializer (to avoid exception, disable SerializationConfig.Feature.FAIL_ON_EMPTY_BEANS) )
I have tried adding this in my original constructor:
this.jsonUpdateMap.configure(SerializationConfig.Feature.FAIL_ON_EMPTY_BEANS, false);
And then get an NPE:
org.codehaus.jackson.map.JsonMappingException: (was java.lang.NullPointerException) (through reference chain: org.codehaus.jackson.map.ObjectMapper["serializationConfig"]->org.codehaus.jackson.map.SerializationConfig["dateFormat"]->org.codehaus.jackson.map.util.StdDateFormat["timeZone"])
Honestly I suspect I am simply going about this wrong and would like to know anyone's thoughts.
Thanks.
EDIT:
My solution has been to back out of Jackson and use Json-Simple. It's easier for my purposes, at least.
JSONObject jobj = new JSONObject(); jobj.put("uniqueid1", "correspondingvalue"); jobj.put("uniqueid2", "correspondingvalue"); jobj.put("uniqueid3", "correspondingvalue"); jobj.put("uniqueid4", "correspondingvalue"); jobj.put("uniqueid5", "correspondingvalue"); JSONArray ja = new JSONArray(); ja.add("somestring1"); ja.add("somestring2"); jobj.put("uniqueid6", ja); System.out.println(jobj);
